Seasons In Fitness

It’s summer (allegedly). For some, summer is a chance to do more and be active. For others, it’s the time of year to slow down and recharge.

Nothing grows on an upward trajectory all year every year. High level sports teams take time off completely, do lower intensity training, and then build towards their next big event.

The same can be true for you. You’ll have times when you’ll see and feel big improvements in your fitness from one month to the next. You’ll also have times when life is more demanding and your training will just be to stay sane and healthy, rather than lose kilos of body fat or put kilos on your barbell.

If you find yourself training “just” to stay healthy for a period in time, that’s okay. No need to put pressure on yourself to be improving in the gym when work, kids, and life is stressing you out.

At the same time, if you find yourself not making progress and think that you should, talk with your coach. You can check to see if your goals are appropriate, there’s a good plan in place, there’s nothing external that would derail them, and then help you stay accountable with action steps.
