Very often beginners can get discouraged if they struggle with their fitness. It’s easy to slip into the (wrong) belief that you’re not cut out for exercise, and because it’s difficult, you must be bad at it. In any good exercise programme, it’s okay if you struggle. From simply getting out of breath, to straining under a heavy weight, to flexibility and coordination.
First all, it’s normal to struggle. If it was too easy, you wouldn’t get fitter, and it wouldn’t be rewarding. The key is to remember that we all struggle, and to find a level of difficulty that doesn’t demotivate you.
Secondly, by doing things we’re bad at, we realise that it’s okay. So you found today’s burpees got you gasping for air, or couldn’t press that weight overhead, or couldn’t do a tumble? The very act of attempting them has helped you stay healthy (and a little humble!)
