HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY!

How does the CFI nutrition programme work?

In CFI, our nutrition programme is based around listening, education, empowerment, and accountability.

Listening:

If its your first time in the gym we’re not going to load 100Kg on the bar and tell you to crank out some back squats. No, instead we’ll talk to you to find out your training history, what your goals are and what you want to get from your training. All of this before we ever start to talk about how a squat works never mind how to squat with a barbell.

We take the same approach with nutrition. Everyone is starting from a different place. That’s why we start with a Nutrition consult (or an appetiser if you will 🙂

During our initial consult we’ll talk about what your main goals are in terms of health and nutrition. Do you want to lose some weight? gain muscle or just want to have more energy to play with your kids? Quite often a small change is all that’s needed to reach our goals. Talking them through with somebody can be just the catalyst we need for change. So, if we can help provide you with the tools you need to meet your goals in this session then we will.

Education:

If a more in depth conversation is needed then we’ll schedule a Nutrition 101 and we’ll most likely ask that you start to record your food intake. That means when we do sit down for a more in depth conversation about your nutrition we have a clear picture of what your food intake looks like during a regular week. We’ll generally recommend MyFitnessPal for tracking, we’ve no ties to them as a product, we don’t get anything for recommending them, we do so because it works, it’s simple and effective.

During the Nutrition 101 we’ll discover where you are starting from. What are your eating habits, what types of food do you eat regularly? do you eat before training? do you eat out a lot? All of this, paired with your food logs will build a better picture of what your current nutrition habits look like. From here we’ll educate you on carbohydrates, proteins, fats. Why they are all important, why you need them all and in what quantities.

It’s at this point that we’ll take baseline measurements. The numbers by themselves aren’t important but they provide data to allow us to track progress.

Empowerment:

Next we’ll deep dive into your goals. We’ll find your why. And we’ll set actions in place to get you there. We’ll put the power into your hands. These steps will be based on everything we’ve discussed to date. The simpler these steps are the better. Simple steps are easy to implement. The less barriers we have in front of us the more likely we are to implement changes to our nutrition and the more often we implement them the more likely they are to stick.

If you work best with numbers and that’s what we feel will get you to your goals, we’ll give you macros. If you travel and have to eat in restaurants a lot then we’ll give you the guidelines you need to keep on track when eating out. We’ll give you the tools that you need to meet your goals.

Accountability:

Holding ourselves accountable to somebody means we are far more likely to follow a plan. It’s not that we can’t do it by ourselves, but knowing that somebody else will be checking in on us or there to answer questions can be the difference between making something work and throwing in the towel. It’s just human nature. That’s where our accountability programme comes in. We’ll check in on you weekly to see how you are progressing, how are your energy levels, are you able to follow the steps to your goals?

Each month we’ll meet and reassess. We’ll take new measurements and reassess progress and readjust any goals as needed.

And most importantly we’re still there to listen.
