Taken from James Clear’s wonderful book “Atomic Habits”, The Valley of Disappointment is that time in between when we start a habit and when we see results.
We expect results almost instantaneously but there’s work under the surface that needs to happen before we see the rewards for our efforts. A common analogy is the bamboo, which spends years growing it’s roots underground and then grows 60 feet in a matter of weeks.
When starting a new healthy eating routine, or exercise Programme, (or anything) focus on making sure you complete your habit, not on the outcomes.
