It’s July, which means we’re half way through the year.
Chances are, you’ve set some big goals for 2018. Chances also are, you’re behind in reaching them.
This is absolutely normal for a couple of reasons. The first is we’re pretty poor as a species at estimating the time it will take to complete a task. We overestimate what we can accomplish in a year, but underestimate what can change in 10 years.
The second is as soon as you set a goal that first obstacle is going to present itself. And usually we’re unprepared for this. So it can derail us or set us back. When we were setting our goal we only saw the finish line, not the pitfalls along the way!
Now it’s also normal to get disheartened at this point. It’s tempting to give up. But please don’t!
In sports, more often that randomness would suggest, the team that wins is the team that’s behind at half time. But only by a small margin. It seems that being slightly behind at the midway point stirs something inside us and gets us to rally our effort. As we see the sand in the hour glass running out, we dig deeper and refocus our efforts.
So this is where we are now. We’re half way through the year. We may need to adjust our targets. So maybe we don’t lose 2 stone this year, but we could still lose 1-1.5. Maybe we won’t get our first pull up, but we can still get to a lighter assistance band.
And if you’re struggling to come up with a direction to your training or how to overcome the obstacles in your way, talk to us and we’ll figure it out together.
Have a great week!
